Whitestone Goes after Global Markets with Protective Films for Edge Smartphones

Whitestone is planning to go after global markets with its new tempered glass for edge Smartphones.

It already partnered up with major European distributors and is planning to supply its products by the end of this year starting with major antenna shops.

Whitestone(CEO Ryu Jong-yoon) focused on the fact that current tempered glass cannot fully protect edge Smartphones. Tempered glass that is out on markets are mostly made for Smartphones with flat surface.

Edge Dot method, which is owned by a company called Moshi from the U.S., has a weakness of not being able to provide sense of touch on places excluding Dots. Whitestone has developed a dome glass by applying the fact that people use glue between uneven walls and wall papers so that they are well attached to each other.
Whitestone’s dome glass injects adhesive between a mobile device and tempered glass. Because it can be attached to whole surface regardless of shape of a Smartphone, there is no sense of difference and touch performance is also similar to when it is not attached.
“Because it is hard to perfectly match film-type tempered glass that is out on the market with shape of edge Smartphones, level of sense of touch or protective function can fall.” said CEO Ryu Jong-yoon. “We currently applied for patents in most of countries such as the U.S., Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, and EU that manufacture devices.”

Starting with dome glass for Galaxy Note 7, Whitestone is diversifying its lineup of products and is receiving positive responses from consumers.
“Consumers are saying that sense of touch on Smartphone is very smooth and that there is no smudge even when Note pen is used.” added CEO Ryu.
Whitestone attended ‘IFA 2016’ that was recently held in Berlin and introduced its new products. It is currently talking with businesses in the U.S., which is the number one in markets for Smartphone protective film, Europe, and Asia about supplying its products.
Whitestone, which made $24.0 million (26.8 billion KRW) in sales last year, is expected to make about $35.8 million (40 billion KRW) this year due to its new tempered glass.
