Dusi Tech Develops Commercial Drone With Automatic Navigation Function

South Korean business has succeeded in developing a commercial drone worth about $883.67 (1 million KRW) with automatic navigation function.

It is seen as an innovative product that will enable South Korea to chase after China, which is pretty much monopolizing markets for small drones for personal hobbies, with a competitive edge in price as its weapon.

Dusi Tech had made an announcement on the 18th that it had finished developing advanced concept commercial drone ‘KnDrone’ and will mass-produce it on full-scale starting from next month.

KnDrone has an automatic navigation function that enables it to perform its task by going to a destination on its own. Automatic navigation function enables a drone to perform its task by having its central control system remotely ordering a drone without a manual controller.

Currently any planes without men on board that are able to film a precise coordinate such as 3D geographical information or able to take off or land automatically such as transportation without men on board need to all have automatic navigation function. Asking price for drones with automatic navigation function globally is about tens of thousand dollars per drone. Since it is too expensive to be used commercially by regular people, it has been used for certain munitions purposes.

Drones that are currently being used by regular people need to be manually operated by people with a manual controller until they get to a destination. Although they are cheaper than expensive products with automatic navigation function, they still cost about thousands of dollars. Even Chinese drones, which are considered to have the best competitive edge in price, are being sold at about $2,651 (3 million KRW).
KnDrone is an innovative product that has both an automatic navigation function and a competitive edge in price.

Dusi Tech has set the price of KnDrone at about thousand dollars that is about tens of times less than current expensive drones. Even if it is compared to Chinese drones that do not have automatic navigation, its price is only a third of Chinese drones.

Its secret is its technical skills.

Dusi Tech, which speciazlies in radio navigation, has satellite navigation and inertial navigation technologies that are important technologies for drones. It has been approved for its technical skills by having abundant know-how and experiences in performing variety of projects in public services such as airline, space, maritime, railroad and others and national defense markets.

It also has a competitive edge in having a technology that can filter sensor qualities that are important in production of drones at a level of an expensive sensor. Filter technology, which is a technology that cleanly finds a radio wave without any noise, affects quality of signals.

Dusi Tech also possesses technical skills that can combine 7 to 8 major sensors such as GPS, Gyro, geomagnetic sensor, temperature sensor, altitude sensor and others. Combination between sensors is an important technology to help drones to have stable flights.

Dusi Tech loaded KT’s PS-LTE telecommunication modules into KnDrone and successfully finished remote control tests according to public safety-LTE for the first time in South Korea.
To expand drone development markets hereafter, Dusi Tech is planning to show SDK software development kit so that it can lead to developments of variety of contents.

Not only KnDrone is used for educational purposes, its usage range is very wide as it can be used for 3D disaster, forest monitoring, industries, national defense and others.

Dusi Tech will first produce 1,000 KnDrones by end of this year and is planning to expand that number to 5,000 next year. It is also planning to develop additional 2 to 3 follow-up models every year.

“KnDrone is the only drone in the world that costs about $883.67 and has automatic navigation function.” said CEO Jung Jin Ho. “After exclusively developing major automatic flight control technology, we are planning to domestically produce all products that are needed for drones.”
