High-tech electric car chargers with Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) are going to be installed in the entire area of Seoul.

KT exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the 13th that indicates it will install mobile charging infrastructure for electric cars with the City of Seoul and Powercube.
KT is going to install charging facilities for electric cars at major buildings and branches and support and manage makings of tags for charging. The City of Seoul is going to provide places for the tags within the city, and Powercube is going to provide mobile chargers and solution assembly.

KT, Powercube, and Seoul Metropolitan City are planning to install 10,000 tags for charging at various parking structures of ward offices, community service centers, buildings under control of the City of Seoul, and KT branches by end of the year. It is planning to increase that number to 100,000 by 2018, and be known as the city that possesses the most charging infrastructure for electric cars in the world.

<(1)For Building owners: It is possible to charge at any outlets with charging tags (2)For Users: Any users can charge his or her car with mobile chargers (3)For Charging companies: After charging each user for the use, deposit all together into KEPC /transfer data usage (4)For Korea Electric Power Corporation: Charge the building owners for everything except for the use of electricity to charge electric cars >

Unlike fixed charging system that required a specific parking structure, mobile chargers only require to be plugged into an electrical outlet and recognize service tags. No separate charging system is needed for this charger, and it offers charging for electric cars and charging per usage.

To install a fixed charger at an apartment or apartment house, ICT was needed previously to solve difficult procedures such as getting an agreement from residents for their designated parking spaces. Electric car users with mobile chargers now can charge their cars at any outlets with tags at anytime and anywhere.

“We are going to solve electric car charging problems by continuously expanding charging infrastructure that is embedded with KT’s communication capabilities. We are going to make the City of Seoul the world’s leading city in electric cars.” Kim Sung Hoon, who works as the director at KT Smartenergy business department, said about what KT will do in the present and the future about current charging problems.

“Electric car business can be a ground-breaking business model by making it into Korea’s future strategic business.” Representative Han Chan Hee of Powercube expects big plans from electric car business. Powercube is the first to develop mobile electric car chargers in the world, and it recently entered Chinese mobile charger market.
